Daily Quotation

Since I'm so behind on my recaps (stupid COVID), I am starting a new feature on here to get folks excited about historical romance novels (and tamp down my anxiety over behind so behind in my ARC reviews and full recaps).

So you're getting some daily words of wisdom or just plain wowza quotations from the books I'm reading.

June 8:

The world was not kind to chubby, overeducated young ladies. (p. 7)

This line, from Forgetting the Earl by Kathleen Ayers, SPOKE to me, as I am a chubby, overeducated (once) young lady.

June 7:

...he became a silhouette of sin, his powerful body hunkered over hers as if protecting his next meal. (p. 223)

This comes from my favorite romance book, Seducing a Stranger by Kerrigan Byrne. My love for Carlton Morley knows no bounds. It's surprising because I LOATHED him in the books in the previous series.

June 6:

Still, it was painful to realize a man who no doubt was in the habit of chasing many a skirt had no plans to chase hers. (p. 47)

Oh, I love Lorraine Heath. I love ALL her books, but Between the Devil and Desire from Scoundrels of St. James is a favorite. I did a recap of the first book in this series, In Bed with the Devil. But you’re going to want to read every one in this series, as well as the two related series (the children of the characters in this one).

June 5:

“You’re aware this is done without clothing?” he asked gently. (p. 38)

Lisa Kleypas was one of the first authors I read when I embarked on my historical romance journey and I absolutely fell in love with Rhys Winterbourne in Marrying Winterbourne. You will want to read the Ravenels and every other connected book/series. These are all 5-star novels.

June 4:

“And if I were a spy? Do you think I would actually tell you?” (p. 85)

Duke of My Heart by Kelly Bowen. Today’s quote comes from the first book in the A Season for Scandal series. Ivory Moore says it to the Duke of Alderidge, who wins for one of the sexiest fictional names: Captain Maximus Harcourt. My girl has a point, too. FYI, I adore Kelly Bowen. All of her books are fire. THIS SERIES IS AMAZING. You’ll love every single book.

June 3:

"I thought it was the old brothel style," Griff bit out unthinkingly. (Loc. 355)

A Dangerous Love by Sabrina Jeffries. This is in reference to Rosalind's redecorating of the family hall. Another excellent description: "This was a nightmare of hell at its busiest hour." I've done a recap of this delightful book. The entire series (Swanlea Spinsters) is straight fire, and SJ is a favorite author!

June 2:

She bet he could kiss the varnish off a silver teapot if he tried. (p. 39)

The Brazen Bluestocking by Tracy Sumner. This is what Hildy thinks about Tobias Streeter, a bad boy with cobalt black hair and green eyes, who just sounds downright delicious! The Brazen Bluestocking is the first book in The Duchess Society Series.

June 1:

She leaned forward and said, “At least tell me about it.”

“About what?”

“About your hell.”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “I imagine it would be very similar to a long carriage ride with a bride with a newfound taste for adventure.”

She laughed, surprised by the jest. “Not that kind of hell. Your gaming hell.” (p. 125)

A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean. Bourne and Penelope. This passage legit made me LOL. I actually have done a recap of this one and it is full of squirrel gloriousness! This is book one in the Rules of Scoundrels Series (warning: I love this series and all of SM's other series, which intersect with this one).
